My Collections

I like collecting stuff. as a kid, I was often made to donate my things when I "outgrew" them. I was numb a lot of the time, so I didn't feel much as I got rid of my stuff on a yearly basis, but when I snapped out of the fog that is chronic depression from early childhood, I realized that I really, really like stuff. I sometimes skirt the line between collecting and hoarding, though I have some rules for myself to mitigate that risk.

  1. would it be percieved as trash by someone that doesn't know any better? if yes, you probably shouldn't keep it.
  2. if it's a container, such as a drawstring bag or a small box, do you actually have something meaningful to put inside it? if no, don't buy/keep it.
  3. if it's a plushie, is there anything unique or special to you about it, such as design or brand? if no, don't buy it.
  4. if it's a crystal, do you already have other crystals like it? if yes, don't buy it.
  5. do you only want it because it's small enough to fit in your pocket without anyone noticing? if yes, don't bother.

in terms of the things I collect, plushies are the thing I have the most of in my mind. it's very possible that I have more crystals than plushies, but they're so small and they're in a little chest right now so I'm just going to say I have more plushies given the fact that they're all over my room and very visible.

Enamel Pins

originally, I planned on having an assortment of bags that I'd use depending on my outfit. in practice, though, it'd be a massive pain to transfer all my stuff into a different bag that goes better with my outfit than the one I normally use. as a result, my favorite enamel pins are pinned to the flap on my shoulder bag and the rest are on a mousepad that I got as a gift but couldn't use, pinned to my corkboard on the wall.

Crafts

while I technically collect these, it isn't something I can exactly go out of my way to acquire. when I say "crafts" I mean things that are handmade by either me or people I know that gifted the thing to me. I don't consider all handmade things to be crafts because if I did, a lot of stuff that's in other categories would be considered crafts.

Art Pieces

some of my art pieces actually came with unrelated products I bought (Etsy sellers of cute things love to give you extra goodies), and most of those usually end up pinned to my corkboard. the rest end up on my wall over my bookshelf (the one for books). some of them I bought at a convention, some were printed by me, and some were given as gifts.

Crystals/Rocks

crystals and rocks are actually the things that Frey collects, but I'm including it on my collection page because we share the same body, where else am I going to mention it? most sit in a little treasure chest on my book bookshelf, but I plan on getting some lightboxes to display them on the walls eventually, since otherwise you barely even see them. I'll be real with you guys—I have no clue what like 90% of the crystals are and neither does Frey.

My Old Sketchbooks

I've kept every sketchbook I've had since... well, I started using sketchbooks. I used to doodle all the time as a kid, so much so that I actually got in trouble a bunch for drawing in the margins of my schoolwork. one time I got 5 points taken off a quiz that I aced because I drew a little kitty at the bottom—seriously, what the fuck is wrong with American teachers? I feel pretty strongly about not destroying any of my old artwork, though I did slip one time and got rid of all my smut drawings. I sometimes like to flip through my old sketchbooks and I got sick of being psychically attacked by my teenage horniness.

Books/DVDs

I'm a slow reader, so I prefer to buy my books instead of borrowing them from the library. the ones that I like enough to keep (or just haven't gotten around to reading yet) stay on my little white bookshelf. I recently started buying physical DVDs, because I'm fucking sick of the whole streaming services / Amazon renting bullshit, but I only have like 4 things right now.

Stickers

this is a newer collection. I love the idea of stickers, but I had no idea what to do with them and ended up giving most of them to my friend before realizing that I could just put them on the side of my book bookshelf. that collection is moving a lot slower, as right now I'm only getting stickers through Etsy sellers that give me some with whatever I ordered. I also buy them at artist fairs and stuff.
