Notes: so, in the time period that Michael's story originally took place in, demisexual as a term did not exist, and there certainly wasn't a pride flag for it. I had to convey his sexuality through the way he described it, which was that he could only "like people like that" once they were already friends. I never explicitely stated that he was bisexual either, but he described himself as not gay or straight, which is how many bisexuals described their orientation at a time when being called gay was often just as much of a form of a erasure as being called straight was.
